北アイルランドで「市 city」と呼ばれるのは下記の5つの都市です。
いずれも「北アイルランド紛争」のコンテクストで名前が出てくる都市ですが、特に重要なのはベルファストとデリーです。
ベルファストは北アイルランドの中心都市（首都、といってもいい）です。北アイルランド自治議会・自治政府が置かれ、北アイルランドの産業の中心都市でもあります。
「北アイルランド紛争」のコンテクストでは、「リパブリカン」のフォールズ・ロード (Falls Road)、「ロイヤリスト」のシャンキル・ロード (Shankill Road)、タイガーズ・ベイ (Tiger's Bay) など、名前だけで「何か」を連想させる地名がいろいろあります。
地理的には、アイルランド島がブリテン島に向いている側（つまりアイルランド島の東岸）にあり、いろいろな意味で「ブリテン島とのつながり」の強い都市です。

デリーは、ひょっとしたら「ロンドンデリー」という名称のほうが日本では広く知られていて、現在日本語で書かれている書籍（例えば1970年代のポリティカル・スリラー小説とか）でも「ロンドンデリー」という表記になっているかもしれませんが、ここでは「デリー」を使います。この話は話せば長いので、別項で改めて。
「北アイルランド紛争」のコンテクストでは、1969年8月の「ボグサイドの戦い」、1972年1月30日の「ブラッディ・サンデー」など数々の「事件」の舞台となった場所という認識は不可欠です。
地理的には、1921年にアイルランドが南北に分かれたときのボーダー（「国境線」という用語は私は使いません）に隣接しており、すぐ西は現在のアイルランド共和国のドニゴール州です。
